In 2018, the Rotary Club of Beaudesert Inc. approached Scenic Rim Council about tree planting for a koala habitat.

With the help of Council – the Rotary Club of Beaudesert  planted 100 eucalypt and other trees for koala and wildlife habitat – specifically Gum-topped box, bloodwood, weeping bottlebrush, native frangipani, broad leaved apple. Of these gum-topped box, broad leaved apple and bloodwood are koala trees.

The trees chosen are suitable for the local koala population.

In a wild life corridor that goes under the Mt Lindesay Hwy and the corridor spreads from the bridge to the Logan River. The reserve has a total area of just over 32 acres.

The Reserve is being gradually replanted with vegetation that will replenish and provide wonderful ‘wild’ but nurtured habitat to local native animal species. The area will serve as a critical corridor for wildlife and a natural area for the local community to enjoy. The area will be returned to eucalyptus woodland and vine forest.

Animal species in the region include koala, kangaroos, echidnas, carpet snakes. Wild birds fairy wrens rosellas, lorikeets, galahs, kookaburras etc from hollows in the trees. The vegetation ecosystem is actually an “of concern” ecosystem meaning its under threat from vegetation clearing. So restoring this ecosystem is more important than ever.

There is very good mineral rich soil – that even in the current dry ‘clumps’ as there is moisture there. It is very suitable for planting.

Pathways and walking trails are envisaged in the future and Scenic Rim Regional Council hopes to introduce nature based recreation into the site.

A very worthwhile project for the Rotary Club of Beaudesert to be involved with – enriching the local animal habitat , benefiting future generations of animals and the community.

The planting forms part of Councils One Million Trees program which aims to plant one million trees by 2025.

6 years on the initial plantings are thriving, and the revegetation growth very healthy
